Huawei has launched the Mate 10 Pro which is the company’s flagship phone of the year. It was designed to compete with phones like the iPhone 8 and Note 8 and it gets close. The phone offers more storage than the other flagships. 128 GB is the standard storage in Huawei Mate 10 compared to 64 GB in other flagships. The battery is another attraction of the device. It hosts a 4000 mAh battery compared with 3300 mAh in Samsung Note 8 and 2690 mAh in iPhone 8 Plus. The phone doesn’t come with a headphone jack or microSD card slot.
The Huawei Mate 10 has a 6 inch 1080*2160 pixel display making it one of the largest phones in the market. The bezels are tiny yet it is difficult to type with one hand. The glass panel at the back of the phone is slippery and extra care is required while using the fingerprint scanner at the back. There is an on screen button called Navigation Dock that helps to use the phone using one hand.
The phone doesn’t have wireless charging feature as the glass rear design is just for the aesthetics. At the bottom is a USB Type C slot for charging. The device is also water resistant with an IP67 rating. The phone has a special Neural processing unit that learns about the usage and predicts the usage patterns. The phone is paired with 6 GB RAM and Kirin chipset which manages to do every task without any lags. However, I noticed a bit of heating with prolonged usage.
The Huawei Mate 10 Pro comprises a 12 MP color sensor and a 20 MP monochrome camera. The camera was pretty impressive when compared to the other phones like Huawei P10 and P10 Plus. Low light photography has also been tweaked and is visibly seen. Video recording is also very impressive in daylight but fails to meet the expectations in low light.
